What we do is who we are
Narrative
Through the eyes of a strong-willed woman comes the extraordinary story of Irena Gut and the triumphs of the human spirit over devastating tragedy, as she risked her life to save a generation of Jews from the crimes of the Holocaust. Although this Canadian film had a much wider theatrical release in Canada than the typical Canadian film, for some reason its distributor, Elevation Pictures, chose not to give the film a significant marketing budget. As a result, the film performed poorly at the box office and was pulled from most theaters by the end of its third week of release. Irena Gut Opdyke: What does it matter who we are?
I've never seen one like this
Boum Music by Charles Trenet Lyrics by Charles Trenet Performed by Charlie and his orchestra. I've seen a lot of WWII movies. "Irena's Vow" is the story of a real person, Irena Gut, a teenager when the Second World War began. She was a virgin, from a rich and loving family.
His family was divided
The war started and she was gang-raped, beaten and abandoned by Red Army soldiers, known for their rapes throughout Europe. The Nazis killed his father. She was alone and desperate. He never indulged in self-pity, but dedicated himself to saving the Jews from extermination.
God, what a woman!
His self-sacrifice, his courage and his ingenuity put the rest of us to shame. Sophie Nelisse is almost supernatural in her ability to embody the young Irena Gut (so said by Irena's real daughter). Nelisse said she is not a method actress and was able to shake off the difficulty of the role as soon as she heard "Cut". That's incredible.
I highly recommend this movie
Once again, I can't think of anything like it.
