Narrative

Bright but emotionally reserved Caro Drake arrives at Oxford with the singular goal of earning her doctorate, but through a turbulent friendship with a charming young man, she begins to open up to mystery, risk, and love. Based on a true story, this film had its world premiere at the Heartland International Film Festival in Indianapolis to a sold-out crowd on Saturday, October 8, 2022. Carolyn Weber, author of the biographical novel on which the film is based, was in attendance, along with actor Rose Reed, who played Caro Drake in the film, and other members of the production.

The main character of the film is Caro Drake

The film is based on a memoir by Caro Weber, who was born in the 1970s, so the story takes place in the 1990s as a college-aged student. Some of it was filmed in Nashville, but most of it was filmed in Oxford, England. Caro is a very serious student who always seems to be more prepared than the other students, even in middle school.

She is never shy about challenging her teacher when philosophical concepts arise in the classroom

When she graduates, she is surprised to receive a full-ride scholarship to Oxford, where she plans to pursue a doctorate in early English literature. She soon meets an American student there (played well by an Irish actor) and he takes a strong interest in her. .

All the while, Caro is trying to sort out her confusion about what really matters in life

She is different from the other students, and her efforts to escape his attention seem to give him strength. Not much happens in this movie, the most interesting scenes are philosophical exchanges, some with other students, some with professors or administrators. .

My wife and I watched it streaming from home
